Mind over matter?

Having the right mindset and demonstrating a positive attitude can greatly improve your chances of getting the new job you have been looking for and moving your career forward. This may seem like an obvious statement to make, but all too often is over looked.
Recent research carried out by James Reed, chairman of recruitment group Reed, and Dr Paul G. Stoltz, highlights the importance of your mindset with findings such as employers valuing candidates who demonstrate the ‘3G’ mindset, seven times more valuable than a normal employee.
Therefore it stands that demonstrating these qualities both as an employee and a potential candidate can only mean good things. One of the most important ways in which you can demonstrate this is through your CV and Covering Letter.
Your profile is the first thing a prospective employer is likely to read and therefore should demonstrate why you are the best candidate for the job. In the past key phrases such as “works well in a team” have been over utilised and no longer offer an employer an accurate description of you as a candidate; they lack the ring of authenticity.
Employers want to see honesty and personality in your CV not simply a list of generic traits a good employee should have. With traits such as Honesty and trustworthiness leading the list of the top mindset values employers want, authenticity truly is key. Closely followed by commitment, accountability, flexibility and determination, but remember writing a good CV is of no use if it doesn’t reflect your skills and attributes.
