Is STEM the future?

Posted in Candidates on Jul 17, 2012 by Richard Hayden

The UK has for many years now been a world leader in the Life Sciences industry and of late, initiatives introducing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) have been taken up and are striving to transfer this success to the growing areas of Technology, Engineering and Mathematics by dispelling the myths surrounding these industries.

STEM is focussed on working with schools and colleges around the country to engage young people with the potential and exciting opportunities that pursing a STEM career can offer. Highlighting apprenticeship schemes, competitions, on the job training and work experience days which have been introduced to children in years 8 and 9 of secondary education through their existing Design and Technology classes.

Many organisations recognise the importance of increasing awareness about STEM based careers and recently will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas revealed that he had given £500,000 to the Prince’s Trust in the UK to help build young people’s technology skills.

Think STEM

“When you ride a bicycle, cook with a microwave oven or listen to music on a portable player, you should think of the creative people who made these technologies happen”
