Lead Transport Planner
We’re working on behalf of a well-established and ambitious haulage business based near Otley to recruit a Lead Transport Planner who’s ready to take the helm of a busy and ever-changing transport planning function.

General Info:

  • Location - Near Otley, West Yorkshire
  • Salary: £40,000 to £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
  • Hours: 45-hour week, Monday to Friday
  • Weekend Cover: 1 in 3 weekends (Saturday morning on-site + on-call phone cover)

About the Role:


As Lead Transport Planner, you’ll manage the day-to-day planning of articulated vehicles and drivers, ensuring efficient operations and great service and be central to keeping things running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create and adjust driver routes to optimise time, fuel, and service delivery
  • Monitor and respond to changes such as traffic delays, cancellations, and customer amendments
  • Assign vehicle and driver schedules with a focus on legal compliance and commercial efficiency
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and other departments
  • Support ongoing improvement and help lead a planning team through growth and development

What You’ll Need:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in transport planning
  • At least 2 years in general haulage
  • Experience planning 20+ vehicles
  • Excellent understanding of driver hours and working time regulations
  • Strong IT and planning system skills
  • Calm, organised, and confident working under pressure
