As part of our ten-year anniversary celebrations, we wanted to give you the opportunity to get to know us a little better. In our ‘meet the team’ series of blogs, we’re introducing our fantastic team members and giving you a greater insight into what makes Key Appointments different.
This week, we’re getting to know recruitment specialist, Melissa Stewart, who is the newest member of the Key Appointments team, having joined us in July. Here’s a little bit more about Mel…
What does your day to day role entail?
“I work on the Key Talent side of the business, so a lot of time is spent finding out about the client’s requirements so I can find them the best candidates. Once I know what they are looking for, I update the job boards, do targeted CV searches, match candidate skills to roles, assess suitability and conduct first-stage telephone interviews.”
What did you do before joining Key Appointments?
“I’ve worked in recruitment in one form or another for over 15 years. Roles include executive search for top tier jobs in the local councils, recruiting schools to a membership organisation, recruiting volunteers for a charity and commercial recruitment.”
What was it about Key Appointments that made you want to join the team?
“I really liked the approach the company takes toward recruitment. It’s all about the individual businesses and candidates rather than just filling as many roles as possible. I could see a future with Key Appointments; I feel like my skill set is valued, and I’m excited about being part of the growth of the company.”
What is your favourite thing about working for Key Appointments?
“Having worked in very specific sectors in the past, it’s nice to work with so many different sectors. I love the variety of roles and spending time getting to know the clients and candidates. It’s rewarding to be able to match the right people to the right roles.”
What do you think sets Key Appointments apart from your competitors?
“I think it’s the fact that we get to know the client’s business; it’s not just about the numbers, it’s about getting the right fit. I love the fact that our focus isn’t on being the biggest recruitment company, it’s about being the best.”
It sounds like you enjoy your role, but what do you get up to when you’re not working?
“I have four children, so as you can imagine, that takes up most of my time. We go on holiday to Spain every year – I’ve been going since I was a child, so it’s a bit of a family tradition. When I get chance, I also like to go running.”
Sounds like motherhood keeps you on your toes.
So finally, what do you think is the biggest recruitment challenge that businesses face?
“Finding the right person takes time. I think the biggest challenge companies face is being able to dedicate the resources to do it properly. They end up filling the position with the wrong person due to time constraints or feeling pressure to fill the role quickly.
A recruitment specialist has the experience and the knowledge to search out the best candidates, which saves the client time and money.”
