Looking for a new Career?

Posted in Candidates on Jul 17, 2012 by Richard Hayden

Searching for a new job can be a daunting task. Whether you are searching for a new challenge or have unfortunately been made redundant, this useful guide will steer you through the process and offer some helpful tips along the way.

The following steps should make your job search easier, so read carefully!

The Right Attitude
The right attitude can sometimes speak volumes over a sparse CV. Some employers will say experience is less important if a candidate has the right attitude, so stand up tall, offer your best smile and be positive.

Get your CV Right at the Start
Your CV is a window to sell yourself to potential employers so make sure you follow our CV writing tips to make the most out of your promotional space.

The Early Bird Catches the Worm
If you are out of work at present, then you should be treating your job search as a full time job. You should ideally be available from 9.00am – 5.00pm and possibly later to capture calls from recruiters and potential employers.

Tell your Friends and Family
Do your family and your friends know you are looking for employment? If they do, are they aware of the type of job you are looking for? Your family and friends are a great tool to use in your job search – so tell them what to look out for!

Use Every Tool Available
Take advantage of all the tools out there designed to help you. Job boards for example are a great place to search for jobs, but also to showcase your CV. Remember however, only post your CV if you are prepared to take a call from a potential employer or a recruiter.

Remain Positive
We understand how difficult it can be to be rejected for a job, but remember – each interview you go for is practice for the job you will eventually gain.

Spread Your Net
Recruiters are there to assist with your job search and offer advice. You should try and keep in regular contact with the recruiters you are registered with to keep at the forefront of their minds. If an agency is not delivering results or being generally unhelpful in your job search, then remember there are others available, you just need to search.
